WildStang Robot Building Process Road Map
- WildStang students learn to follow distinct phases of the engineering process.
- Students investigate, gather information and requirements, brainstorm, and gather robot and game information.
- Requirement and concept reviews
Students go through the process of elimination for “realistic” and “un-realistic” ideas.
They consider all requirements (mechanical, drive system, software component, electrical, strategy, feasibility study).
- Prototyping and Design
Students and engineers build the prototype to familiarize themselves with a functional model and to test for certain important features prior to building the actual robot.
- Implementation
Students and engineers start building the actual robot from the design.
- Testing and Quality assurance
The robot goes through a series of testing.
Students perform stress test cases on the actual playing field against other robots at the WildStang Invitational.
- Post-production process
We carefully make minor adjustments to the robot based on our original game strategy.
- Competition
This is the fun part; after 6-8 intense weeks, we finally get to play in the game. Students and mentors get quite involved in the robot competition. We also exchange technical knowledge with other teams and learn more about other teams’ designs. Every year we use the same process to make our robot. This helps ensure the quality of the final robot. Students also get to work on the project using a real world engineering approach.
