Robot Events
Aim High: As introduced last year, this year's game is played with 3 vs. 3 alliances. Robots will attempt to launch balls into a center goal 10 feet above the center alliance station for 3 points. Robots or human players may score a single point by throwing or pushing balls into one of two corner goals at either side of a center ramp. A green lighted target above the center goal will be illuminated when robots are allowed to score in their zone. A vision camera provided to each team in the kit of parts may be used to lock on to the green target and aid in aiming at the goal.

Matches are 2 minutes and 10 seconds long. The robots start from one of three mid-field positions. The start of the match is a 10 second autonomous period in which the robots are programmed to control themselves. The alliance with the highest score at the end of autonomous period receives a 10 point bonus and will be on “defense” in the first of three periods, each lasting 40 seconds. During the first and second periods, one alliance is on offense and can score balls, and the other is on defense and cannot score balls. During these offense/defense periods, the defensive alliance must maintain a “BackBot”, which remains on its offensive side of the field either gathering balls, or setting up for shots, but not interfering with the offensive alliance. In the second period, the scoring opportunity and the BackBot requirement switches. In the final period both alliances can score goals and/or play defense. Before the end of the match, alliance robots will speed back to their end zones and climb the ramp to the platform. Robots will score points for reaching their home platform before the end of the game: 5 points for one robot, 10 points for two robots and 25 points for 3 or more robots.

WildStang is a force to be reckoned with! Using the provided CmuCam, WildStang is able to auto-track the illuminated target and provide feedback to the robot controller for auto-aiming our turret and tilt mechanism. An accumulator picks up balls from the front and passes them to an inside conveyor which feeds to a spinning wheel for shooting. Information on shooter speed and target lock-on are fed back to the driver via a display and color-coded LEDs which aid in accuracy for shooting into the center goal. Autonomous programs are also selected and displayed to keep opponents guessing...
