Each year FIRST asks mentors on FRC teams to select two exemplary 10th or 11th-grade student leaders as nominees for the Dean\u2019s List Award. The Dean\u2019s List Award aims to honor students who embody the philosophies and core values of FIRST, along with those who demonstrate commitment to FIRST, their teams, and leadership. In the selection process, mentors consider student efforts over their entire time with FIRST, not just the current year.
\nThis year, WildStang was proud to select two hardworking and dedicated 11th-grade students: Erin F. and Annalise G.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Erin F demonstrates FIRST and WildStang Core Values daily. She has taken on several leadership roles on the team, including taking ownership of Miss Maker Workshop to build programming to get young girls interested in STEM. Along with MMW, she led efforts to complete our submission for the Woodie Flowers award to honor our choice for mentor of the year, and she is also happy to take on small tasks in the shop, such as trimming parts needed for the robot. Erin was involved in FLL before joining WildStang, and through her time, found that she loves the precision and attention to detail required for manufacturing and fabrication. She enjoys learning about the different tools used in the shop and worked with other students to create safety videos for each machine to prevent injury and protect fellow students. Erin pulls in other students to help them understand what is going on, which gives them confidence. Erin looks forward to continuing her involvement in FIRST through volunteering and mentoring in the future. She also hopes to help the shyer students more comfortable working with the team.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Annalise G embodies FIRST and WildStang Core Values through her natural curiosity and drive to learn. She is often the first to volunteer to take on new tasks and is not afraid to ask questions of mentors or peers. She prefers to lead by example and enjoys pulling younger students into tasks to gain mastery. Annalise has been involved with FIRST for ten years. From FLL jr to FLL to FRC, she has always enjoyed taking on outreach tasks in addition to her technical work. She led the mechanical portion of Miss Maker Workshop this year, creating a fun task for girls to learn mechanical engineering concepts and skills. She also volunteers at FLL events and hopes to continue volunteering in the future, as well as taking on a mentor role after college. Last summer, she took on an outreach project to help a local boy with physical disabilities by modifying a Power-Wheels car to be more accessible and training him for power wheelchair use. Annalise also contributed to the team’s Safety efforts, working on creating safety kits that are easily accessible in the shop and pits. Annalise hopes to leave younger students with the knowledge they need as she and her fellow upperclassmen graduate and continue their education.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
