Week 4 Recap

Week four was a busy week for all of our subteams. Strides are being made, including 111 having a robot that looks like a robot!

The first people to lay their hands on the robot were 111 mechanical subteam members. They constructed the shooter and are assembling the climb and feed. The CAD of the intake was finished and is now getting cut out by the CNC router. Their goals for this week include adding the shooter, assembling the intake, and having the robot drive and hopefully shoot. 112 Mechanical had a lot of learning to do. During week four, they learned how to use a lathe (a machine that rotates an item and shapes or cuts it), completed the intake CAD, continued the climb CAD, and assembled a frame for the robot. In week five, they are looking forward to finishing the climb CAD and working more on their robot.

As 111 mechanical completed the robot, 111 electrical stepped in to begin wiring. This wiring included the tower and the robot. The 111 electrical subteam installed the pneumatics for the robot with the help of 112 electrical students. Team 112 wired the motors for 111’s robot and organized the wires and motors. They also learned frequencies this week for robot-driver communication. 112’s goal is to finish the pneumatics on 111 robots, and 111’s goal is to work out all of the kinks in the wiring and troubleshoot issues.

Software 112 did not have much to do this week. 112 software completed assignments for Monday night class and learned more about coding. 111 software also did not have much to do, but they improved the shooter subsystem that they finished in week three. They are looking towards the future and are focused on adding more complexity to the subsystem coding.

This week our two combined subteams: communications and strategy got a lot done. Strategy completed their 2019 scouting test for WildRank, and all went well! In week four, they created a WildRank manual for WildStang Robotics students. The manual explains how to use WildRank for scouting in the 2022 game. Their goal in week five is to create a public manual to share with other FRC teams to help with their scouting.

Communications is getting increasingly busy with competitions starting in March. During week four, they worked on writing the week three blog post, filming and taking pictures, experimenting with button sizes, creating button designs, writing mentor profiles for wildstang.org, and also brainstormed outreach activities to do for our WildStang Day of Service this year. Their goals for the upcoming week include writing the week four blog post, continuing taking photos and videos, ordering the correct sized buttons, creating a pit handout for judges and visitors, continuing creating button designs, completing the mentor profiles, and working on WDS for this year.

As you can see, week four has been a busy week for many. Keep an eye out for our next blog post regarding week five, and stay updated with the fast-paced creation of our robots and more!
