CHARGED UP Week 2 Build Blog

Week 2 Recap

WildStang Robotics program made it through Week 2! We’ve been up to some exciting things with prototyping, CADing, and brainstorming. Read more about what we’ve been up to!

WildStang’s mechanical subteam has gotten a lot of work done on the robot. They’re starting to finalize things they were working on last week. They’ve completed most of their prototyping, are almost done with their CAD, and finished assembling the drive base. They’ve now moved onto the arm and are beginning to build it.

Plus One’s mechanical subteam has used this week to finish some things up. They cut the belly pan out and assembled it. As for CAD, they completed their intake. In the next few days, they will have the intake prototype finalized.

WildStang’s electrical subteam has been wiring away this week! They wired the belly pan and swerve modules. Typically the belly pan takes us a week to wire, but they were able to do it in a day this season because they planned it beforehand and did it more efficiently. One way they were more hyper-effective this year was choosing to build things while it’s outside the robot so they can spend less time building once it’s inside.

Plus One’s electrical subteam has been hard at work this week! They finished the belly pan layout and are now waiting for the mechanical subteam to finish their part of it, so they can continue wiring it. While waiting they’ve taken this time to help mechanical out with their CAD and to train new electrical members.

WildStang’s software subteam has been starting new things this week. They’ve been updating the Limelight firmware to improve its capabilities. They’re starting to prototype other software and working on the code for the auto-balance that happens during the autonomous period. Plus One’s software subteam has also been starting some new things this week. They’re starting to download some new code and coming up with ways to autonomously balance on the charge station. They’ve started to brainstorm some ideas for the robot, and look forward to coming up with more during this upcoming week!

WildStang and Plus One’s joint strategy subteam has been developing their defense strategies. They noticed the similarities between this year’s game and the 2019 game, Infinite Recharge so they’re using that to their advantage. They’ve been trying out new defenses with the 2019 game and seeing how it compares to this year’s game to see what they can do similarly. They’re continuing to scout with results and hope to be done by Wednesday or Thursday. Things are looking hopeful so far!

WildStang Robotics Program’s communication subteam has been busy behind the scenes. They wrote last week’s blog post and uploaded it to the WildStang website. View it here! They’ve begun to work on the Impact Award and Woodie Flowers Award. Right now, they’re working with the rest of the team to set up meetings to work on it all together and starting to write up the first draft. They’re also behind the cameras, taking photos and videos for the website!

This has been another successful and exciting week for the program! We look forward to seeing all the amazing things we’ll do next week.
