CHARGED UP Week 3 Build Blog
Week 3 Recap
WildStang Robotics Program Week 3 was another great one. We’ve been busy scouting, building, and brainstorming. Read more about it here!
WildStang and Plus One’s joint strategy subteam worked on a lot of scouting last week. They finished scouting the 2019 game and gathered all the information from it that was beneficial to this year’s game. They also finished putting together ideas for defensive scouting strategies. Other than scouting, they’ve been looking on Chief Delphi, FRC forums for submissions, from other teams to start getting an idea of what their robots look like and what to expect this season. They will continue scouting old matches, but now they’re waiting for this year’s matches to begin so they can start scouting those.
WildStang’s electrical subteam has gotten a lot done this week. They prepared the SPARK MAXES for the lift and were able to get them mounted onto the bracket. Once they finished, they were able to prepare four additional ones for backup just in case they needed them later on. They had more time left in the week, so they used that time to assist Plus One in assembling their bellypan.
Plus One’s electrical subteam has been finishing things up this week. They finished wiring and building the swerve modules. They then were able to get the swerve attached to the drivetrain. They didn’t have a lot of things to do this week as they were waiting for parts, but they used the time they had wisely!
WildStang’s mechanical subteam has been hard at work finishing the carriage and the lift. The lift bracket that they used has the added benefit of serving as the Limelight mount. They have also been working on constructing the end effector, as well as cutting and finishing most of the arm and lift gearbox. They are planning by the end of the week to have most, if not all of the mechanical work done so they can pass the robot onto the electrical subteam.
Plus One’s mechanical subteam has been diligently working and moving along this week. They’ve made exciting progress; they’ve finished building the swerve as well as the drivebase. They also built some of the tower, the back vertical part of their robot. By the beginning of next week, they hope to have the robot running!
WildStang’s software subteam has been doing a lot of work on MasterClass where they are connecting all the subsystems of the robot. The team has continued to work with the Limelight system and is currently working on being able to locate the position of individual AprilTags on the grid. They have also been learning how to work with path-creating software for this year’s robot.
Plus One’s software subteam has divided up this week. The more advanced members have been working on the programming of the freedom arm and their robot’s intake subsystem. The members who are still perfecting their programming skills have been working on an Everybot assignment. The assignment allows for newer members to practice programming subsystems for the drivetrain. It’s a less advanced and simple robot that helps them learn the basics.
WildStang and Plus One’s joint communication subteam has been working hard this week. They’ve been powering through on both the FIRST Impact Award and Woodie Flowers Award, and hope to have them both submitted by Monday! They wrote and published Week 2’s blog post. View it here. They’ve also been behind the camera taking pictures and videos. They also created a promo video for one of our sponsors, REVRobotics, as a part of their TeamREV program. It’s about the swerve drive on both of the robots. You can view it here.
Week 3 has been another great week for the WildStang Robotics Program. We look forward to the successes to come in the next week, stay tuned!
